E pluribus unum Shrugged: Ayn Rand Against American Conservatism and Libertarianism

The past decade has witnessed a renewed interest in the works of twentieth-century Objectivist philosopher Ayn Rand. Political events ranging from rise Tea Party to 2016 election Donald J. Trump have only helped spur this resurgence, further evident film adaptations and reissues her popular literary novels. pundits abound have, turn, deemed return Rand as victory for libertarian thought Republican Party, more broadly. However, paper I contest such theoretical synergy complicate Rand/Republican interplay by suggesting that it rests on false grounds. Drawing Rand’s Objectivism, argue modern-day politics, specifically conservative strains thought, fail epistemological philosophical writings Russian-born, turned-American therefore are not incompatible, but function forceful critique against governing platform preparation 2022 midterm elections.
